Application Fee Waivers

Applying to college can be very expensive! Thankfully, there are fee waivers for both tests and applications for those who qualify. Read through the information below to see if you qualify for fee waivers and to access fee waivers.

*Note: Colleges do NOT have to accept fee waivers, so if you use one, make sure you qualify and read messages from the college to make sure it was accepted.

Testing Fee Waivers

Taking the SAT and ACT costs money. Fortunately, there are fee waivers available for those who qualify! As a general rule, if you qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch, you also qualify for a fee waiver to take the test for free. Please contact MRHS College Advisors to see if you can get a fee waiver.

*2022-2023 fee waivers will be available at the beginning of September.

Application Fee Waivers

Applying to college can be very expensive! This is one reason we recommend researching colleges and building a balanced college list. If you qualified to take the SAT/ACT for free, you will also qualify to apply to most colleges for free using a fee waiver. Please see below for more information about college application fee waivers.

Application Fee Waiver Process

Using application fee waivers can feel confusing since every college has a different set of rules. However, the general process is:

  1. Search the college's website to determine which fee waiver(s) they accept. Another great way to find out about fee waivers is to ask college reps when they visit our campus or at a college fair!

  2. Check to see if you qualify to use a fee waiver. Qualifications will be listed with the fee waiver information.

  3. Complete the fee waiver the college accepts and that you qualify to submit. Make sure you complete everything requested!

  4. Submit the fee waiver to the college. Some colleges want fee waivers mailed while others allow students to email or upload fee waivers to their college student portal.

  5. After you submit the fee waiver, check your email and student portal regularly to make sure you're good to go!

Application Fee Waivers

While you need to check college websites to determine which fee waiver(s) each college accepts, below are the most common fee waivers accepted by colleges. See guide below for how fee waivers work.
